  • The Detroit mafia, a Bolivian drug cartel and a UK organised crime group planned to saturate the UK and Europe with high-grade Bolivian cocaine which hitherto had been within the purview of the Columbian drug cartels.

  • Their goal was to import 100Kg per week of 98% pure cocaine then worth millions of dollars at wholesale values. Over 40kg of 98% pure cocaine was seized in London which was the largest seizure in Europe at the time.

  • Officers from the Central Drug Squad based within Specialist Operations at New Scotland Yard arrested the gangsters in the UK and US from where a major mafia ‘enforcer’ was extradited. All were eventually convicted at the Old Bailey and sentenced to a total over 40 year’s imprisonment.

  • A number of extremely radical and lawfully audacious law enforcement techniques were deployed and tested in court, including the use of a participating informant, a mafia ‘super grass’ and intrusive covert surveillance methodology. Most of which will be revealed during the talk.
